We introduced a new allowance system. If she does all of her chores all week without me having to get onto her, she gets $1/week. In 4 quarters. Then, she gets to decide where to put it - spending, sharing, or saving. The sharing and saving jars we add 10% to whatever she saves. Here's what I've learned so far-
1) Money is not a huge motivator for her, as she's missed it a few weeks already for not doing her chores.
2) She is incredibly generous, putting as much if not more into the sharing jar versus the spending jar. One weekend, she asked if we could go to the store so she could buy Reed something with her sharing money, and she let him choose a matchbox car. I was extremely humbled by this act, and so proud of her!
3) She is NOT a saver. Pennies - literally - get put into this jar.
4) She is all about instant gratification. Even if she's holding in her hand an item she'd like to have - one that costs $5 or so, that she could have in barely over a month if she simply saved her money - she'd rather choose something right then and there, just for the sake of getting something, even if it's something she's never wanted in her life and would never have chosen, but it's what she can afford right now.

We spent her last school-free Saturday hiking at Hobbs S.P. She took what money she already had (and had transferred from her piggy bank to her 3 jar system) to spend. She bought a couple of trinkets for herself, and one for Reed. :)
